Anticipation!

No! It’s not about the postal strikes.

Last week I was conversing with an old friend of mine on WhatsApp, just checking in with each other. I didn’t have much time to spare when the message from him came through so I said I would write later and give him an update.

I procrastinated.

Finally, I sat down to type out my message when I realised that he was deserving of more time and effort from me, given my procrastination, than a WhatsApp message. So, I wrote to him, using a pen applied to paper (the ones you see on the front page of the website). It wasn’t a lengthy letter, but it captured all I wanted to share with him. I put on a 1st Class stamp and mailed it.

That same night he WhatsApped me again, checking in once more and asking some questions. I told him I had written to him and he would have to wait to get the answers. He was truly excited by the thought of both receiving a letter in the post and having the time to wonder what it was going to say.

That, my friends is anticipation. Not something we experience all too often in our instant messaging and next day deliveries. Try it!
